The Caran d'Ache Red Dragon is once again a tribute from the Swiss manufacturer to Chinese culture, with a new dragon following earlier editions. The Dragon is the fifth sign of the Chinese zodiac. Celebrated once every 60 years, it represents strength, success and tireless creativity. It is the only mythical creature included in the zodiac.

The design of the Caran d'Ache Red Dragon

The artwork was created by illustrator Jean-Philippe Kalonji, the brand's ambassador. It depicts the dragon in 18-carat gold plating, with scales engraved on several levels to add relief. The brass body is covered with a glossy red lacquer applied by hand by a master lacquerer, while the ring is engraved with the Caran d'Ache and Swiss Made logos.

The edition is made up of 888 pieces, individually numbered and engraved on the cap end: 888 is considered a lucky number in China and a symbol of ultimate balance. The clip and button are gold-plated, with a small red-lacquered hexagon identifying the button.

The nib is 18-carat yellow gold, hand-finished and polished. It is available in Medium point, with other widths available on request. The pen is supplied with a piston pump and two cartridges of blue ink, compatible with all Chromatics refills.

It measures 141 mm in length and 14.8 mm in diameter, and weighs 54 grams. It is entirely designed and made in Switzerland, in the same artisan tradition that also shapes the Prismalo Vintage.

The numbering 888 (the number of pieces produced) is due to the number 8, the luckiest number of all as it is similar to the symbol of infinity and brings prosperity and wealth.
Each pen is individually numbered, at the top of the cap.
The Caran d'Ache Red Dragon pen is housed in an elegant red presentation case with a magnetic closure, decorated on the outside with dragon scales.

Red and gold lacquer

The deep red lacquer body and cap feature a dragon designed by Jean-Philippe Kalomji, with delicately engraved scales. The workmanship is multi-layered, adding depth to this exceptional piece.

The metal parts—the dragon, but also the clip, the cap, and the grip, both of the fountain pen and the rollerball—are plated in 18K gold. A magnificent contrast with the shiny red lacquer.
