The Delta Journal N.O.S. is a fountain pen produced in 2014 as a tribute to the world of journalism. The pens for sale are New Old Stock: never used or sold, stored in Delta's warehouse since 2014, with availability limited to remaining stock.

Only two colors are left: Black and Pompeii Red. The cartridge/converter filling system is accessible by unscrewing the back end cap, without detaching the barrel from the grip.

Design and Materials of the Delta Journal N.O.S.

The body is made of marbled Pompeii resin or black resin, both with a glossy finish. The Pompeii Red recalls the colors of the celluloid used by Delta for the limited edition Pompeii Millennium. The chrome-plated metal clip is pressure-fitted to the cap; the quick thread (less than one turn) ensures secure closure against ink drying.

Nib and Filling

The steel nib is original Delta, hand-tested, available in ExtraFine, Fine, Medium, Broad, and Stub sizes. The converter is accessible by unscrewing the back end cap, without detaching the grip-nib assembly: refilling is simpler and reduces the risk of leaks. The pen also accepts standard international cartridges, compatible with inks of any brand.

Try it with Iroshizuku tsuki-yo for the Black variant, or with J. Herbin Rouge grenat for Pompeii Red. Also discover other Delta fountain pens on pens.business.

FAQ

What does N.O.S. mean and what warranty does the Delta Journal have?

It is a pen never sold or used, produced in 2014 and stored in Delta's original warehouse. N.O.S. means New Old Stock. The Delta warranty is valid for 24 months from the date of purchase on manufacturing defects.

How does the end cap filling system work?

Unscrew the back end cap to access the converter's piston, dip the nib into the ink, and operate the piston several times. There's no need to disassemble the barrel.

What nib size should I choose for daily use?

For daily writing, Fine or Medium is recommended. ExtraFine for small characters or narrow lines. Broad and Stub for signatures, titles, or decorative calligraphy.

Can I use inks from other brands?

Yes, the system accepts standard international cartridges and any bottled ink via converter. It's best to avoid pigmented inks or those with metallic particles.

Can I take the pen on a plane?

Yes, if completely full or completely empty. Half-filled, pressure variations at altitude can cause leaks: it is advisable to keep it with the nib facing upwards during takeoff and landing.

N.O.S.

Delta reopened in 2023 after closing in 2017, finding some parts that it reassembled and overhauled.
The Journal was initially available in 5 colors: in addition to Pompeii red, there was solid black, a pearly blue, a mottled brown and a mixed black-beige.

The Pompeii colour recalls a famous 1996 Delta limited edition, dedicated to Pompeii, made of dark red celluloid with green-grey inserts and some fragments of white.
The Journal is made of resin, hand-turned from solid bar stock; but the composition of the fragments and colors is very similar.
